Oregon Coast Elopement

There is nothing like an adventurous elopement on the Oregon Coast, especially when it’s at one of my personal favorites: Hug Point.  It is a hidden gem with breathtaking coastal views, rocky beaches that lead out to a sandy shore, and the most incredible rock formations.  Hug Point is also so secluded and intimate that it makes for the perfect setting for a couple looking to elope.  Fun fact: It was not the original location we had in mind for this elopement! It means so much to me when couples trust me fully and let me take the wheel (literally). I was driving these two to their elopement location on the coast when a power line went down on the road in front of us and completely blocked the route. We waited for thirty minutes before I asked if they would let me change up the plan (keep in mind we had been meticulously planning for the first location for months at this point) and they gave me the go-ahead and *insert lots of screaming here* we zoomed back the way we had just came and ran, RAN out to the coast and it was everything. The sun came out, the tide was low so the cliff slides were out to play, and Robyn was just my golden muse, frolicking around in her wedding dress and letting me do my thing. We had started with the dreamiest light at high noon, the sun reflecting like starlight on open seas, and ended with a calm blue hour lit only by the light of their two lanterns.

If you’re a newly engaged couple, seeking an alternative to a traditional wedding, an elopement on the Oregon Coast might be just what you’ve been looking for. This Hug Point elopement is one of my favorites and shows off why it’s the perfect destination for adventurous couples.

Why Choose the Oregon Coast for Your Wedding?

The Oregon Coast is renowned for its natural beauty, rugged cliffs, and stunning sunset views. It’s no wonder that many couples choose this picturesque location for their special day. Whether you’re a nature lover, an adventure seeker, or simply someone who appreciates the serenity of the ocean, the Oregon Coast offers a variety of breathtaking locations for your elopement.

One of the standout spots along the Oregon Coast is Hug Point. Located just a short drive from the charming town of Cannon Beach, Hug Point is a hidden cove that offers a sense of seclusion and intimacy that is perfect for an elopement. Its unique name comes from when travelers had to hug the rocky headland during low tide to continue their journey!

One of the unique features of Hug Point is its natural waterfall, which cascades from the rocks above onto the beach. This picturesque waterfall adds an element of enchantment to your special day and provides a breathtaking backdrop for your ceremony. Imagine the sound of the waterfall mixing with the gentle ocean breeze as you begin your journey as a married couple.

Planning Your Hug Point Elopement

Planning an elopement can be both exciting and daunting, but don’t worry – I’m here to help you every step of the way. Here are some tips to help you plan your dream Hug Point elopement:

1. Choose the Perfect Season

The Oregon Coast experiences a mixture of weather conditions throughout the year. Summers are generally warm and sunny, while winters can be rainy and cool. Spring and fall offer a pleasant balance, with milder temperatures and fewer crowds. Consider the weather and your preferred wedding atmosphere to pick the perfect season for your elopement.

2. Obtain the Necessary Permits

When planning your elopement at Hug Point, check if any permits are required. Depending on the size of your ceremony and whether you’ll be bringing any additional vendors, you may need to obtain a permit from the local authorities. It’s essential to do your research and secure the necessary permits well in advance to avoid any last-minute stress.

3. Embrace the Local Vibe

The Oregon Coast has a distinct vibe that combines coastal charm with a laid-back atmosphere. Embrace the local culture by incorporating elements of the Oregon Coast into your elopement. Consider using locally sourced flowers in your bouquet, incorporating coastal-inspired decor, or even having a beach bonfire for a memorable reception.

4. Hire a Local Photographer

A talented photographer can capture the beauty of your elopement and provide you with lasting memories. Consider hiring a local photographer who is familiar with Hug Point and the Oregon Coast. They will know the best spots for stunning photographs and can help create a wedding album that you’ll cherish for a lifetime. As someone who adores photographing at the coast, I always help my couples choose locations that help create an entire experience for them!

5. Consider an Intimate Reception

An elopement at Hug Point is a wonderful opportunity to have an intimate celebration with your closest loved ones. Consider hosting a small reception at a nearby beach house, restaurant, or even a picnic on the beach. Keep it simple and focus on creating meaningful moments with your loved ones.

6. Capture the Adventure

One of the reasons couples choose to elope is to embrace adventure and create unique memories. Take advantage of the stunning location and plan some adventurous activities for your elopement. Whether it’s exploring the nearby tide pools, taking a scenic hike, or even enjoying a sunset beach bonfire, make the most of your time on the Oregon Coast.
